5 Days Till Christmas!

Christmas Eve cookies

Happy holidays! I know not all of you celebrate Christmas, but we definitely do at my house. I thought that I would share one of our favorite Christmas recipes with you. These are the cookies that we left for Santa every year at my house. They are super yummy and it’s impossible to eat just one! I found the picture online as I’m not a great photographer, but the recipe is my own.

Cherry Chocolate Kisses

1 c. powdered sugar
1 c. butter, softened
2 ts. maraschino cherry liquid
1/2 ts. almond extract
3 or 4 drops red food color
2 1/4 c. flour
1/2 ts. salt
1/2 c. maraschino cherries, drained and chopped
About 48 chocolate kisses, unwrapped (better make it extra, so you can test a few)

Heat oven to 350. In large bowl, combine sugar, butter, cherry liquid, extract and food color; blend well. Add flour and salt; mix well. Stir in cherries. Shape dough into 1 inch balls. Place 2 inches apart on cookie sheet.

Bake at 350 for 8-10 minutes or until edges are a light golden brown. Immediately top each cookie with a candy kiss, pressing down firmly. Remove from cookie sheets and let cool before touching or chocolate will smear.

Stocking Stuffers

Merry Christmas! I love Christmas. I also find it pretty stressful, trying to get everything done and bought and wrapped and baked and finished in time for the big day. In case you’re struggling with the same thing, here are a few ideas for stocking stuffers or inexpensive gifts for people on your list.

Pet owner:

Framed picture of them with their pet or just their pet. You can get cheap frames at the dollar store.

Handmade coupon for dog walking

Mug with dog or cat on it and a mini hot chocolate

Notepad or stationery set with dog or cat

New leash

Handmade catnip mouse. You can get catnip at the health food store.

Thumb drive. You can always use another one!

Pokemon coloring book

Box candy

Fingerless gloves These are from the Legend of Zelda

Trading cards

Your Mom or Dad

Bottle of lotion or hand cream

Fuzzy slippers

Nice gloves

Travel mug

Imported tea or coffee and a box of shortbread

Coupon for a car wash

Photo book. Yes, it’s more work, but they would love it.

Book lover – honestly, this isn’t hard! What would you like? Besides your enormous wish list, right?

Blank journal and a gel pen to record favorite reads

Movie tickets to the latest book adaptation

Shakespeare cookie cutter and sugar cookie dough

Book pin

Read harder pint glass

Library t-shirts or bags

And if you want to try making a stocking, here’s a tutorial I found. Merry Christmas!

Went out with My baby!

My husband and I went out for a Christmas date! We’re both bad about taking pictures of us, so you’ll have to settle for some other pictures of our fun night out.

First we went to Provo for Waffles!

We went to Bruges Waffles & Frites for authentic Liege style waffles. I got mine just like the picture, but with chocolate added. Because if I can add chocolate, I will!

I haven’t figured out how to make creme fraiche yet, but I want to because it’s sooooo good.

Then we went to see one of our favorite local bands, Ryan Shupe and the Rubber Band. They were doing a special Christmas show.

The concert was so much fun! They played their own arrangements of familiar Christmas songs plus a few original songs. I think they have some new band members as I didn’t recognize the drummer. But the concert was a lot of fun.

We even went to an art exhibit before the concert started, Life is Sweeter in Candy Color by Katrina Berg. I don’t have great pictures of the art, but she had some fun commercial art that I totally would have bought.

Not my favorite of her pictures, but the colors are great

All in all, it was a very fun start to December with my very favorite person!
